A National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation

January 20th, 2009 Christian Grantham

President Barack Obama’s first official act is to proclaim a national day of renewal and reconciliation. You can now read the proclamation on the White House’s new website.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2009, a National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation, and call upon all of our citizens to serve one another and the common purpose of remaking this Nation for our new century.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

My first official act was to cry during an inaugural edition of the Morning Browser. I couldn’t help it. I spent the whole hour broadcasting live feeds from the nation’s mall and sharing in an amazing American moment. I can’t remember a moment in my life when the nation was so captivated by a shared moment in history.

Tune in tonight to WKRN-TV News2 at 4 to see me cover your inaugural tweets on Twitter. If you’re up at 6 a.m. tomorrow, join me for another inaugural edition of the Morning Browser, maybe even without the tears.
