It was ‘Russians’ by Sting

If you missed WKRN’s Jeff Ray signing today on the Morning Browser just before he did the weather, you can see it at the beginning of this clip.

Most of you in the chat room thought it was Reba McEntire’s “How was I to know,” but you couldn’t figure out the part about Russians. That’s because he was actually singing Sting’s “Russians.” I asked him when I got into work today.

In Europe and America, there’s a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don’t subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

And how appropriate is it that this song was stuck in his head on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall? Very appropriate. It’s a day in history I will never forget. Can you believe that was 20 years ago?

And how appropriate was it that I chair danced to Olivia Newton John’s Xanadu? Probably not at all, but if you can figure out a connection that makes me look brilliant, holler.
